Capital Prep Student Awarded Prestigious Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship During Surprise Announcement

April 14, 2026 -- What began as an informational session quickly became a defining moment for one Capital Prep Harbor scholar.

During a recent visit from Sufyan Waryah, a student at New York University and an Amazon Ambassador, juniors and seniors at Capital Prep were introduced to the Amazon Future Engineer program—a global initiative focused on expanding access to computer science education and creating pathways into technology careers for underserved students.

The session provided valuable insight into the opportunities available through the program, including mentorship, career exposure, and support for students pursuing STEM fields. But the highlight of the visit came with an unexpected and exciting announcement.

Samuel Abraham, a member of the senior class, was named a recipient of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, earning $40,000 to support his college education over the next four years.

In addition to the financial award, the scholarship provides Samuel with a range of transformative opportunities, including paid internship experiences with Amazon, a direct pathway from high school to college and into careers in technology, access to free 24/7 mental health resources, and connection to a national network of mentors and peers.

The surprise recognition was met with celebration and pride from classmates, faculty, and staff, marking a significant milestone in Samuel’s academic journey.

Samuel’s achievement reflects both his hard work and the growing impact of initiatives like Amazon Future Engineer in expanding access to opportunity within the tech industry. As he prepares to take the next step toward college and beyond, the Capital Prep community celebrates this accomplishment and looks forward to all that lies ahead.
